Complete the Words
A short academic paragraph with letters missing from selected words. You type the missing letters. Spelling, word form, and meaning all have to be right.
On the day
- Read the whole sentence before filling a blank. The missing letters are constrained by grammar as much as vocabulary.
- Count the boxes. A six-letter tail is not a three-letter one; don’t force a synonym that doesn’t fit the stem.
- Watch suffixes: -tion vs -sion, -able vs -ible, third-person -s, past -ed.
- If two forms seem possible, reread the previous verb tense and articles.
Usual traps
- Ignoring the stem and typing a whole new word.
- American vs. British spelling: both are accepted on the real test only when the stem allows it; match the stem.
