Listen to an Academic Talk

A professor talks for about two minutes. Listen once and take notes; then answer one question at a time. Structure is usually definition, example, caveat, then what the class should do next.

On the day

  1. Label each chunk in your notes: D / Ex / But.
  2. Example questions cite the example; main-idea questions ignore it.
  3. A rhetorical question from the professor is usually answered in the next sentence.
